Column from The Wave

Twenty years later we still feel the pain. We're also still in harm's way and still being lied to and misled.

Those who woke up on that beautiful Tuesday morning unaware that it was their last day, and those who selflessly and heroically responded to a nightmare scene only to rescue them, must finally be honored properly. We owe it to them, ourselves and our unborn, to discontinue down the path that enabled the attacks on our nation and city two decades ago.

Failed government policies, on all levels, have left our country and city in ruin and continue to put us in danger. Twenty years later and the Taliban is more powerful than ever before with cutting-edge military equipment and geopolitical clout as a result of chasing America out of Afghanistan on their own terms. Twenty years later and our beloved city is in complete crisis with violent crime, homelessness, soaring property taxes, inadequate infrastructure and so much more. Yet across the board all levels of government continue to fail us. Everything has changed since 9/11 except misguided policies and misappropriated tax dollars.

The politicians and a thoroughly corrupt political culture in this city, state and nation failed us then and continues to fail us today. Bizarre and asinine policies allowed us to be attacked that day. They continue to keep residents of our cities and suburbs living in terror to this day. Open borders, both physical and figurative, enabled those evil bastards to bring down the Twin Towers, not a lack of security at the airport. Yet twenty years later our immigration policies remain relatively unchanged. Domestic and international gangs terrorize our communities. In fact, we will now be welcoming and financially supporting countless refugees from Afghanistan into our home while the country they leave behind is armed to the teeth and emboldened in their terroristic ways. All as a result of the attacks on 9/11.

The violence that plagues our land today is blamed on the inanimate weapons of choice rather than the depraved people who use them. Government debt is out of control but every year they keep spending more (and borrowing from our enemies) without a shred of discipline. Politicians and political appointees say Afghan refugees will be properly vetted and the Americans stranded there will be brought home. They told us twenty years ago that the toxic air at Ground Zero was in fact safe. Today we're expected to trust them when they tell us that a hastily produced vaccination is safe. But wait "science" backs up these claims, right? Where were those scientists twenty years ago though? Either way, the American economy funded those shots yet our economy has been severely crippled by asinine government policies in response to Covid-19. Those same policies killed many of our most vulnerable and elderly neighbors while quarantining our healthy and productive ones. The political hypocrisy and stupidity that we're forced to consume on a daily basis is sickening, but more importantly it's disrespectful to those we've lost along the way.

How does all of this relate to real estate you may ask. As I've said before, it's mostly property taxes that fund local governments. Homeowners and their tenants fund NYC. WE are the City, not the politicians or their appointees. WE pay the municipal employees who serve and protect us. We owe them honesty, accountability and real solutions to the issues that caused those brave and heroic 343 firefighters, 64 Law Enforcement Officers and 8 EMT's to make the Ultimate Sacrifice that day and afterwards. We also owe it to our neighbors who never made it back home that day. God bless them all and God bless America.
